Leon Thum's Music Journey

Leon thum was born in Penang and picked up the guitar at age 10. While classical lessons gave Leon the basic fundamentals of the instruments. It wasn’t until he was 17 years of age when he started developing a style and technique of his own which he simply identifies as “Rhythmic Harmonics”. A year later, his first song title “Apana”, which primarily uses this technique was born. 

Busking the streets of London and subway stations. In the 90s for pocket money whilst pursuing his legal studies. Leon kep the romance with the acoustic guitar on going. He has managed to keep the set up simple yet evoking the guitar’s every resonance to play melodious compositions with his unique fingerstyle technique. 

The opportunity arose when youtube allowed the platform for one to showcase their passion. Reflecteons(Reflections) was Leon’ contribution to the world of fingerstyle guitar playing. Having spent years in the shadows putting his musical pursuits on hold in favour of an entrepreneurial lifestyle, Leon Thum is finally back!

Achievements

In the year 2023, Leon was awarded the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) Medal by the Penang State Investiture for his service in various associations and groups.
